Consciously Creating Connective Community
We have all heard of becoming who we really are but sometimes don't understand what that really means, well I didn't anyway, and I can only speak for myself.
I had the awareness at the weekend that I am finally growing into my Self and becoming who I truly am! Emotional and amazing feelings followed this real Aha moment... and they haven't gone away, hence this blog!
I have never been ordinary! Anyone who has ever met me will confirm that. But then who is ordinary or normal and who decides what is ordinary or normal anyway? My mother used to suggest that I wasn't "all there", in the nicest possible way of course, asking "what mad things was I up to now"? A few of those and I began to feel that there might be something wrong with me. It slowed me down for a while but never quite quashed the real ME!
When I was in my early 40's and decided that I didn't want to be overweight and unfit, I joined a gym and went to aerobics at least twice a week and enjoyed every second of it! I worked hard at it, as I do with everything, so the sight of me in a leotard and little shorts (that was the fashion then) wasn't a bad one! My oldest son said to me once as I was rushing out to a class,"why can't you be like a normal mum? Other people's mums don't run round dressed like that!" When I asked him what I was supposed to do he didn't have an answer, but obviously doing what I did wasn't normal, even though the aerobics class was full of someone else's mums. Ah well!
Anyway, I've digressed again. My Aha moment this weekend came after my second WellBeing Day event took place in South Liverpool and was a fabulous success! Appointments booked up before the event and new people turning up on the day. I was so pleased with myself and everyone else involved as I couldn't do it entirely on my own.
I then went to a charity event yesterday in Chester raising funds for a group of lovely young people who are off to the Gambia for a fortnight. During a conversation with someone who commented on my name and how lovely it is and how it suits me, I said that when I was younger I didn't like my name (given to me by my dad) or my curly hair, as I wanted to be like everyone else and have short names that fit on one line and hair that could be tamed and tossed in the wind!! Then it happened! I realised that I have grown into my name - Angelita - it suits me, it is me and my now "allowed to be curly" hair also suits me and gives me a freedom and "relaxedness" that I didn't have before.
So thanks Dad for my name and for my curly hair! This is really me and who I am supposed to be! Who are you supposed to be? What do you need to do to be You?
