I am now Nana to two beautiful children who, I believe, are a true gift to us.  Aoife "appeared" three and a half years ago at a time in my life when so many things were not working well for me.  She brought me out of the sometimes dark place that I was in and gave me something beautiful and positive to focus on.

I was reminded of the time when my children were that age, I went and got photos out and looked at their happiness at that age too.  Just looking at a photo now of my son aged about 4 months I can see the wallpaper I put up on the wall in the flat we lived in, there's a blanket on the chair that I remember and so much more. 

I was a young mum and now realise that I did the best I could at the time with the often limited resources that I had at my disposal but we were mostly very happy!!  I remember sunny days, walking to the shops - no car then and it was too much bother to get everything and everyone on the bus so I was fit too.

Being a Nana is great for me.  I have more patience than I had with my little ones. Through watching my son I can see how I was my mother at times, even though I swore I never would be.  When I hear my words coming out of his mouth sometimes it makes me cringe but now I have tools I didn't have then or know about and I can make a difference. 

I know that my grandchildren will be allowed to be the gorgeous little people they truly are, at least more of the time than I was allowed to be and then allowed my children to be.

Spending time with Aoife yesterday reminded me of the innocence and ease of life as a 3 year old and I commented at one point that she is a much happier 3 year old than I was at that age and that makes me so happy now!!

So massive gratitude for our children and grandchildren and the lessons that they bring to us.
